STEVE KERR REACTS IN FRONT OF THE SIGNING STAGE WITH DUBS IN 93 INSTEAD OF BULLS

STEVE KERR REACTS IN FRONT OF THE SIGNING STAGE WITH DUBS IN 93 INSTEAD OF BULLS

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had his brightest moments as an NBA player, nothing more important than a game-winner over the Utah Jazz in Game 6 of the 1997 NBA Finals as to a member of the Chicago Bulls. Many have wondered what would have happened if Kerr had made that foul and the series went into Game 7.

Another scenario what? It appears that Kerr almost became a member of the Warriors instead of the Bulls in 1993, at least according to one person.
Longtime NBA traveler Avery Johnson told this anecdote as a guest on KNBR’s Tolbert, Krueger, and Brooks podcast via NBC Sports’ Drew Shiller:
“Pop (Gregg Popovich) was on the plane with Nellie (Don Nelson) during the preseason and Tim Hardaway got injured and got on his knee. Pop called me and said, ‘Look, if I can convince Don Nelson on this flight to sign you instead of Steve Kerr, you will have a job. ”I was out of a job.
“And thankfully, I got a call at six in the morning and Pop – who was an assistant to that staff – said, ‘Pack your bags, you’ll get to Golden State.’
Someone is mixing up the details, as Johnson signed in late October 1993 and Kerr had signed with the Bulls on Sept. 29, nearly a full month.
The coach who is now Warriors was as surprised as who heard this anecdote:
“I didn’t know it,” Kerr said. “I’ve never heard Avery’s story.”
It didn’t take long before Tolbert asked for a “what happens” regarding Kerr that would provide the Warriors with the same type of championship-caliber championship:
Kerr: “Wait, wait, wait. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Did you tell me if I had gone to the Warriors as a player, maybe they would have won championships?
Tolbert: “I did. Maybe things work differently. There they had a pretty good team. Look, I’m not saying you would have been the guy to win the championship. We don’t go crazy here. “
Kerr: Okay (laughs). We are not fooled (laughs). “
Kerr has always been fully aware of his skills as a role-playing actor and it is not clear that he is influential for a dynasty like the Bulls of the 90s. However, shooting plays an important role in the playoffs, and The Warriors would never have said they didn’t join their three-point league-leading team.
